What is Nomi?

Nomi is an AI companion platform. Its beginner guide explains choosing a name, base personality traits, initial interests and appearance. Shared Notes provide additional context, including a character’s backstory.

The distinction between an initial trait and shared context is useful. Traits describe a starting personality; background and relationships describe the world around it. A practical character brief should address both rather than assume a single adjective does all the work.

Group scenes and media

The guide describes adding multiple Nomis to a group chat with a shared backstory. It also covers selfies, generated art and voice chat, with some voice features associated with a paid subscription.

Group scenes make a different test case from one-to-one conversation. Check whether you can tell which character is speaking and whether each follows its own role. We have not tested the maximum useful scene length or the quality of those interactions.

A good way to evaluate the fit

Create two characters with distinct motives and a single shared situation. Keep the initial scene short so you can identify which setup choices affect the result. Record what the characters remember when you return to the conversation.

Before subscribing, confirm current character, group and voice allowances. A documented group-chat feature is useful evidence of product scope, but it does not establish reliable coordination, unlimited memory or the value of a paid plan.

Creating a character

Use the official guide for the current interface. These notes outline the documented workflow or the checks to make before choosing access.

  1. Set the new companion’s name, traits, interests and appearance.
  2. Add a coherent backstory through the documented Shared Notes workflow.
  3. Start with a one-to-one conversation.
  4. If appropriate, create another character and evaluate a shared group scene.

Common questions

Can Nomi support several characters in one scene?

The official beginner guide describes group chats with multiple Nomis and a shared backstory. Current account limits should be checked separately.

Does Nomi have voice chat?

Its official guide describes voice chat and associates some voice features with a paid subscription. Current allowances and voice quality are not verified here.
